The busy holiday season is in full swing and during this time, we are faced with an inordinate amount of information to process. We are barraged with dilemmas and problems to solve on a daily basis; our communication with others can be heated, especially so in our present political climate. Our nerves are frazzled because of everything we have to get done in the course of the day with not enough time to do it, and we’re eating and drinking more so than usual knowing it’s not good for us in the long run. This is all very stressful. I know you know what I’m saying here.
All of this information, let’s call these message units, are part of our daily lives. We experience thousands of them when we are awake- through our body, environment, conscious and subconscious mind. There is a battle between the conscious (12% of the mind) and subconscious mind (88%) when we come to a crossroads; a decision to make that will guide us to take a certain path. It’s the subconscious that often wins out because that is where our inner programming- our life experience -is stored. It is in our subconscious which dictates our lives in many ways. So don’t blame yourself if you think you have no will power or self – control, it’s that 88% that is in charge and as strange as it may seem, it wants to protect you.
It likes the comfort that all of those indulgences bring. It feels safe and content and will do what it can to stay in homeostasis. All is right in the world.
Now let’s get to the good part. Our subconscious, which is accessed through hypnosis can help us change direction and make positive changes in our lives. Of course, I want you to come see me at https://healthbyhypnosis.com but there are things you can do on your own to better understand both minds and why you do what you do.
- Write down what behavior you want to change (just pick one for now)
- Next write down what benefits you get out of this particular behavior. Let’s say you love chocolate, any kind of chocolate. Maybe it soothes you, or takes you back to a certain time and place. Maybe you get a little rush from that first bite. Whatever it is, write it down
- Now how does this behavior NOT serve you? Still on chocolate, do you gain weight, feel bloated, make you break out?
Ok, now that you have your reasons for change, it’s time to put this to work for you.
- Sit in a comfortable chair, keep your head still and find a spot on the wall, high up so that your eyes have to strain a little. Stare at that spot.
- As you continue staring, breathe. On 4 count each- slow inhale and slow exhale. Do this 3 times. On each inhale, say out loud and softly, ‘sleep’. On each exhale, say ‘deep sleep’. On the last exhale, allow your eyes to close.
- Now say out loud again, those reasons for your wanting to change. How you will feel when you have made that change. State everything in the positive not negative.
- Repetition is key. State your new way of living over and over until you feel comfortable and that things are gelling.
- Now it’s time to come back. Say ’I am going to count from 1 to 5. 1, I am just coming back up to 5, wide awake. And now begin your counting up and when you get to 5, you feel refreshed and ready to starting changing your behavior. Do this as often and as consistently as you can.
I hope this helps you feel better in your body and mind.
